Invitation to the E100 Roundtable

[E100 Alert] En Route to the New York #1 – Invitation to the E100 Roundtable

nyc

Dear E100:

It has been a while since Muscat, Oman. In spite of (or perhaps even because of) the global financial meltdown, progress has never been so great nor the challenge more clear.

Hopefully, you have already absorbed the messages and hotlinks provided in the recent E100 Alert on the Millennium Bretton Woods. It includes a sketch of some of the E100 performance experts, the most relevant comparative ranking reports and a cause to which we can all contribute – the art (and science) of ‘collaborative advantage’.

You may already be familiar with the report submitted to the US Congress on Innovation Measurement. Some may have followed the ITIF analysis of the IT Stimulus Plans of the G20. Others may have interest in the practical application of IC for Chief Innovation Officers and new launchpads for operation, such as the KAUST Inauguration and efforts to build National Innovation Ecology.

Last week alone, E100 celebrated their 14th year of the Baltics Dynamics in Vilnius, Lithuania; and in Iran was hosted the International Conference in IC Management. Other E100 activity this week includes Ukraine Innovation 2009 and Oslo Innovation Week – from where I am drafting this Alert!

We have called it ‘Knowledge Innovation Zones (KIZ) and Knowledge Economics; but the labels are not as important as the substance of the dialogue. Regardless, of your frame or reference, there is much to be gleaned from our timely pooling of E100 insight...

The 6th International E100 Roundtable – Dates: 4-5 December 2009

Some of you have participated in the previous E100 Roundtables held in New York, Helsinki, Monterrey, Barcelona, and Oman. This one promises to be the most productive as we tackle the core issue of innovation measurement. Per Drucker suggested in the 1990’s that there was one competence needed – the ability to innovate – and measure the performance thereof.

Our job is to define that common language and bring the E100 vision into reality - a new world order based upon innovation value systems, stakeholder interaction and international collaboration. How do we build bridges across disciplines, sectors and nations?

Several have been invited to speak at the ISPIM Symposium; and others who have already planned (or are trying) to be in attendance from Finland (yes, Esko Kilpi was the 1st to respond yet again!), Germany, Israel, France, Wales , England, India, Canada, the US, Austria, Poland and India.

Thanks to assistance provided by two New York E100 members, we have outlined an aggressive agenda to explore these topics in some depth:

- Day 1 : E100 Baruch Lev, Professor, Stern School of Management, New York University (NYU), is well known for his own published indicators on the company and industry or Micro-economic level. Discussion will be fueled by early results of the survey of Chief Innovation Officers produced my Mary Adams and David Wallace. Discussion will center on the operational aspects of measuring and managing g innovation effectiveness.

- Day 2 : E100 Thomas R. Moebus, Vice President The Levin Institute, State University of New York (SUNY), will host the discussion on the Meso-Economic and Macro-Economic levels. We will scope activity to build indicators to contrast the progress of nation-states and on the societal level. Discussion will center on the impending Millennium Bretton Woods and the need to define requirements for a World Innovation Collaboration Index.

Further details will be provided; but first do let us know YOUR plans so we might best factor into the agenda!

Dovetailing with ISPIM Symposium – Dates: 6-9 December 2009

What greater place than New York City to return for the discussion

‘Stimulating Recovery: The Role for Innovation Management’  –

organized by ISPIM (International Society for Professional Innovation Management and hosted by The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT)!

Indeed, the playing field has been leveled – just as we predicted. New rules are needed as the old no longer apply.

E100 Iain Bitran (UK) has outlined a compelling agenda for academics, business leaders, and consultants. The program has attracted hundreds of submissions from several countries, so the perspectives will be global as hoped.

Topics include:

  • Collaboration and open innovation
  • Entrepreneurship & intrapreneurship
  • Financing innovation
  • Innovating business models
  • Innovation and IP
  • Innovation policy for economic recovery
  • Integrating innovation practice into education
  • Lean innovation
  • Managing innovation to stimulate recovery
  • Measuring and managing innovation
  • Methods and tools for innovation
  • Networks and regions of innovation
  • Organizational creativity & idea generation
  • Training and leadership for innovation

I look forward to seeing some old friends and new faces – some who have yet to be announced officially in the E100 Alert.  If you have not already done so, you may want to visit the Global Knowledge Leadership Map to discover recent additions and to check your own contact details for accuracy. Some exciting plans are in the works and you will want to be included…

Please let me know even if you are attempting to join us…

Always in your Network,

Debra
