The Workshop on Information in Networks (WIN)
We are excited to announce WIN 2011, the third Workshop on Information in Networks. The last two years saw WIN develop an intimate and influential community around topics which at their core involve ‘information in networks‘—its distribution, its diffusion, its value, and its influence on social and economic outcomes. At WIN, scholars from diverse fields including computer science, economics, information systems, physics, political science, sociology, and statistics come together to lay the foundation for ongoing relationships and build a multidisciplinary research community. This year will again combine diverse content and a vibrant discussion. Participants will share their recent research, which may have been published elsewhere, but which may not be widely known outside of their own disciplines. The workshop will combine talks and poster presentations selected from a pool of submitted abstracts. As always, the workshop format reserves substantial time in each session for audience discussion. The energy of New York City will inspire, and you will leave with new ideas and an expanded community.
Participants (as of July 22, 2011):
| Albert-Laszlo Barabasi, Northeastern | Sanjeev Goyal, Cambridge | David Lazer, Northeastern |
| Nicholas Christakis, Harvard | Matt Jackson, Stanford | Alessandro Vespignani, Indiana |
| Noshir Contractor, Northwestern | Michael Kearns, U Penn | Brian Uzzi, Northwestern |
| Christos Faloutsos, CMU | Rachel Kranton, Duke | Duncan Watts, Yahoo! Research |
Abstract Submission:
Participants will be selected based on submissions of 3-page extended abstracts. Please submit an extended abstract of no more than 3 pages to Shirley Lau (info@winworkshop.net) no later than August 20, 2011. Abstracts will be evaluated as they are submitted and evaluation will continue until the program is filled. Space is limited, so interested researchers should submit as soon as possible.
Authors of accepted abstracts will be notified by September 1, 2011 and will be expected to send in the final version of their submitted work (not to exceed 5 pages, including references and figures) by September 15, 2011. These will be available as part of the WIN informal workshop notes. Members of the press may attend the event and submission therefore indicates no objection to their presence during presentations.
